Nero had been out hunting with the Necare and Six almost every night. It had started as a distraction, something to take his mind off Ace, and of course, an obligation to his duties of assuring the additional Necare were being utilized properly. But those reasons seemed to fall away with each passing evening. He had forgotten how much he relished the hunt. How the predator within him felt so satisfied after he brought another of his enemies to their death. Each passing evening, it became harder for his thirst to be abated when they returned to the manor. With his lust for the kill also came the need for warm blood directly from the mortal source.

It was becoming a moral quandary for him. He knew that other Vampires still drank from humans with semi-regularity, using the donated blood only when they weren’t able. He, however, had been the Elder who had gone to such lengths to make it possible and had lived purely off that blood for years. And now that he had let himself get lost in blood sport, it was getting harder and harder for him to push the aching need to lure a mortal to a darkened corner and take their essence from them.

This night, Nero had just finished beheading a Werewolf and was practically panting with thirst. He had turned away from the rest of the Necare they had come out with, eyes scanning the crowd of mortals beyond the narrow side street they were hidden on. Six wouldn’t like it if he disappeared back to the manor without her. No, she would and had taken offense to that several times over the last few days. This time, he would at least warn her.

“Six,” he said slowly, tearing his eyes away from the humans. She walked over to him, brushing off some of the dust that a Witch had become, her face twisted with disgust.

“Yes, Nero?” she asked, her voice sweet, though she seemed far more preoccupied in the speckles of blood across her corset that were keeping the dust clinging there.

“I need a blood bag,” he said, running his hands through his hair impatiently. She looked up at him, red eyes brightening with anger. There was still fun to be had and killing to be done, and she wasn’t going to cut off her time simply because he was hungry.

She stamped her foot like a child.

“But I don’t want to go home!” she whined, watching him wince at her tone.

“Six―” he started, but she hissed at him.

“No. You hunt!” she ordered him as she pointed at the crowd he had just been staring hungrily at. “Go!” she ordered him again, continuing to point.

“I should just return to―” She hissed again. It wasn’t like Nero to take orders from anyone. His position as Elder made it so he normally did the ordering. But the truth was, he wanted to hunt. He only needed the excuse, and Six gave it to him.

He watched the crowd, waiting for at least one of them to notice him.
